Whole House Renovation Project Restoring Old Homes

Restoring old homes is one of our favorite client requests, because it presents the exciting challenge of blending old and new seamlessly. Historic homes are typically built well, with unique materials like wood from old-growth forests that simply can’t be found today. An older house often boats craftsmanship and details that make it feel immediately warm and welcoming. Have you ever dreamed of restoring an older house to its former glory? One of our favorite clients, a serial remodeler who enjoys saving unique homes, is doing just that!

This featured project, a whole house renovation in the Peachtree Hills neighborhood, is undergoing an exciting transformation. Our client had purchased a 1920’s craftsman home with beautiful touches and lots of potential – and lots of work to be done! After investigating the home’s condition and working with the owner to create a design plan and schematics, Home ReBuilders got to work. Here are just some of the projects we’ve taken on so far:

– Gutting most of the home’s interior

– Updating the kitchen and bathrooms – including new cabinets, appliances, finishes, and fixtures

– Finishing the basement, which may someday be converted into a guest or au pair suite

– Rebuilding old windows and replicating others to maintain the integrity of the home’s character

– Maintaining the old siding, filling in gaps where needed with new yellow pine wood.

– Restoring the garage and adding durable, new siding that will match the look and feel of the original siding

– Refinishing the home’s original heart pine floors

– Updating the existing structure of the home to today’s standards, utilizing the original strong, resin-cured woods

– …and more! This is a current project, and we can’t wait to share the end result with you when the job is complete.

When this home is finished, it will have the charm and character of a 100-year-old home with all the comforts of today’s living. Home ReBuilders’ team truly enjoys the chance to help maintain a neighborhood’s historic feel while creating a space that generations to come will enjoy.

How do I get started?

The first step to starting your Smart Plan is for you to connect with us via email or phone to share your ideas and vision. We’ll help determine if your project falls within the scope of a Smart Plan. If it does, you’ll meet with an Account Manager in your home, or in our design center, to discuss your project. After we hear your ideas and talk through some suggestions, we’ll generate a simple sketch, description, and budget for your project – and you’ll be informed of any design costs that will be incurred to complete the rest of the plans. Then, you’ll receive your “Smart Plan” proposal free of charge – including a floor plan, scope of work, timeline, and costs. When you’re ready to move forward with construction and with executing the Design+Build agreement, we’ll develop official plans and put our construction crew to work! Permits will be applied for, materials will be selected and ordered, and a fresh, more functional space will be yours before you know it – for just a fraction of the cost and timeline of a more intensive renovation.

Dee Loves Renovating Old Homes

“I see myself as a master planner. I am at my best when managing a number of projects. I enjoy teaching best practices and sharing with others what has worked for me in the past. But I’m especially proud of the positive atmosphere I maintain amongst my team. Our clients see our passion—they see that we love what we do.” – Dee

Dee is a very talented conductor, the maestro at the helm of our many projects. She beautifully orchestrates the timing, the budgets and those who work on her team.

She was born into this industry. Under the tutelage of her father who developed land, who built spec homes and provided mortgages, she learned firsthand. Upon his retirement in the late 90s, she expanded into custom-built construction, managing projects for various builders, mainly multi-million dollar homes in the mountains of (Georgia and North Carolina) and on the coast of (Florida, Georgia, Alabama).

She was called upon by construction firms to share her expertise in process management and system set-ups. Rolls Royce caught wind of her management skills and nabbed her to orchestrate annual events held at private estates. A renowned theatre designer brought in Dee to help with sound isolation. Several projects at Atlantic Station filled her time in 2012, including the construction of the tennis courts and player facilities which house the BB&T tournament.

But renovating old homes has always been her real love. Their quirks and individual personalities intrigue her and challenge her. Bringing life back into the neighborhoods of her hometown, Atlanta, are paramount to her. In her free time, she lends her management skills for the good of others. She chairs the Doggies on the Catwalk event which benefits Canine Assistants, a non-profit organization which trains and provides service dogs for those with special needs.

Home Rebuilders is quite honored to have Dee as part of their team, the leader of their orchestra.
